Getting a behind-the-scenes Look
Stallone was filming some intense scenes for the new Paramount+ crime drama series Tulsa King. He plays New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi, who his boss exiles to set up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On the day of Jelly Roll’s visit, Stallone was getting into character for a confrontation scene.
“It was surreal to watch Sylvester Stallone transform into Dwight Manfredi right before my eyes,” noted Jelly Roll. “The intensity and toughness he brought to the role was incredible.”
Making a New Friend
Between takes, Stallone welcomed Jelly Roll and the other visitors on set.
“I was nervous about meeting him, but he put me at ease immediately. We started talking about music, and he knew who I was, which was cool,” shared JellyRoll.
Stallone invited Jelly Roll to hang out with him during filming breaks. They discovered much in common in their creative pursuits and life experiences.
“It was like talking to a friend I’ve known for years. Sylvester was so down to earth.”
Stallone’s Sage Advice to Jelly Roll
In their heartfelt discussions, Stallone gave Jelly some wise advice about navigating show business and pursuing your dreams.
“He stressed the importance of staying true to yourself no matter what pressures come at you from the outside. It was great advice from someone who has been in the entertainment game for over 50 years.”
Jelly Roll was enthralled listening to stories from Stallone’s early career struggles before breaking out with Rocky.
“It showed me that you must be stubborn and persistent through all the nos before the yeses start coming.”
An Experience to Remember
At the end of the day, as Jelly Roll reflected on his time with Sylvester Stallone, he still could hardly believe it happened.
“I kept pinching myself – I just spent the whole day hanging out with Sylvester Stallone. It didn’t feel real.” He was grateful for Stallone’s generosity in chatting off-set and sharing sage advice with him.
Jelly Roll returned feeling inspired to take his art to the next level. “Sylvester proved that if you have dedication to your craft and passion for telling stories, you can accomplish amazing things. I won’t forget this experience anytime soon.”
Understanding Dwight Manfredi’s Character
While visiting the Tulsa King set, Jelly Roll also gained insight into Stallone’s complex character, Dwight “The General” Manfredi. In the series, Manfredi is a seasoned New York City mafia captain exiled by his boss to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to set up a new criminal empire in the heartland of America.
“Watching Sylvester sink into this character, you can see the layers of an intelligent and dangerous man,” observed Jelly Roll.
Stallone channeled Manfredi’s cunning intelligence and his short temper when crossed.
“There are times when Dwight is cool and calculating and other times when you can just see the rage boiling under the surface. Sylvester plays both aspects so authentically,” noted Jelly Roll.
He was impressed by how Stallone brought nuance and shading to such an intriguing character. From what Jelly Roll witnessed on set, fans are in for a compelling new crime drama series when Tulsa King premieres this fall.
